A Man of No Importance – Workshops and auditions are approaching!

Work at The Mill has begun on next year’s productions, with the workshops for the musical “A Man of No Importance” on Monday 7th and Wednesday 9th November, with auditions on Sunday 13th November.

Set in 1960s Dublin, this show tells the story of Alfie Byrne, a single, middle-aged bus conductor who runs the local theatre company. His quiet life is turned upside down when one day a young woman steps aboard his bus and Alfie thinks he has finally found the one person he has been waiting for for so long.

A story of heart, friendship, humour and acceptance, this musical requires a small tight-knit cast able to play a number of characters and also able to help move the show and it’s scenery and props in a smooth, choreographed fashion. This will require some lifting of chairs tables etc.

More about who we are looking for

The cast is comprised mostly of middle-aged characters with two younger members (playing aged early to mid 20s). There is at least one non-singing role.

It is not a large dance show but the cast will be required to undertake some movement.

Irish accents are required so think of Father Ted or Ballykissangel (although probably not Derry Girls as that’s north of the border!)

This piece is great fun for its cast and we hope you’ll consider coming along to try out. It requires a lot of teamwork and is a true ensemble piece.

It is not necessary to attend both workshops – they will be used to tell you more about the show and to distribute audition pieces. Our choreographer, Davina Beegoo-Price, will also be taking you through some of the movement from the show, and perhaps even a small jig! You don’t automatically have to audition if you attend a workshop, so if you’re curious about am dram, it’s a great way of getting your foot in the door for the first time and seeing what it is like to be involved.
