Stage Combat Workshop with Gordon Ritchie – Saturday, 28th June 2025

Sharnbrook Mill Theatre is planning to run workshops in 2025, giving us an opportunity to learn from each other, develop our skills, and have a bit of fun together.

We are excited to share that our first session for 2025 will be a Stage Combat Workshop with Gordon Ritchie.

This workshop is for current Sharnbrook Mill Theatre members only (this is a stipulation of the special insurance cover we have arranged). Becoming a member of The Mill is easy – just take a look at the information on this page.

The workshop will guide you in the basics of stage combat and build confidence in both performing and choreographing fight scenes for the stage that are safe and believable. It will be an interactive and physical workshop, involving a lot of moving and partner work, so please wear comfortable clothing you can move in. No previous experience of stage combat is needed for the session, and it is open to all abilities.

If you’ve ever wanted to have a go at some stage combat, or would like to learn more about how to choreograph realistic fight scenes for your productions, this is the session for you!

More about Gordon

Your facilitator for this session, Gordon Ritchie, has had a long-standing interest in stage combat from the time he took a class with Frantic Assembly artistic director (and founder) Scott Graham when he was a teacher at Gordon’s school. Gordon followed this up with training and held the position of Fight Captain under professional fight choreographer Raph Alids on a production of The Scarlet Pimpernel staged at the York Theatre Royal in 2008.

Gordon has facilitated workshops in stage combat and taken on the role of fight choreographer in several productions. He received acclaim for his stage combat work on West Side Story at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate in 2018 and for The Girl on The Train at Sharnbrook Mill Theatre in 2024.
