Director Lester Cooke has just sent us the information for those who would like to audition for our Autumn play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

This will be on Tuesday, 22nd April at Sharnbrook Mill Theatre.

Synopsis
Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike.
Old resentments flare up, and a weekend of sibling rivalry, regret and raucousness begins that eventually leads to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future (sort of), and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.
It’s a hugely entertaining, laugh-out-loud comedy that was nominated for 6 Tony Awards in 2013, winning the award for Best Play along with a number other awards that year.
Characters
Vanya – 50’s, Male
Lived his whole life in the same house in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less. Acts as peacemaker between his 2 sisters, mostly. Is a budding writer but is afraid to share it with his family. Has a dry sense of humour and a laid back outlook on life… unless he’s pushed too far!
Sonia – Late 40’s to 50’s, Female
The adopted sister who has lived in the same house with Vanya for her whole life. Discontent, Upset, Regretful and a biting sense of humour. Enjoys teasing her siblings but always wonders about the life she could have lead. Has her moment to shine and absolutely makes the most of it.
Masha – 50’s, Female
Vanya’s sister. Glamorous and successful actress who has had the chance to gallivant around the world. The world has always revolved around her and she has revelled in that spotlight. Controls any room she is in. Confident on the outside but on the inside…
Spike – 20’s to Early 30’s, Male
An aspiring actor. Sexy, spontanious, self absorbed. Makes the most of what he’s been given, and knows the effect it has on those around him, and how to get what he wants. Has a youthful charm and an innocent wit. Masha’s new devoted companion… for now!
Cassandra – Any age, Female
Cleaning lady, part time cook and full time soothsayer. Begrudgingly completes the tasks of the first two roles and revels in the third. Has “visions” of the future that no one will listen to… until they do! But is she right?
Nina – Early 20’s, Female
Lovely, sincere, would-be actress. She’s visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Starstruck, energetic, naive but full of charm. Is willing to please those around her and turn a few heads, in more ways than one!
